Your Playing Posture

When learning to play the guitar, it is important to pay attention to how you sit and move your hands. This will help you to prevent back and joint pain.

Here are a few things to keep in mind before & during each practice session.

  • Sit down on a comfortable chair, preferably without armrests and wheels.

  • Keep your both feet on the floor.

  • Keep your back straight and your shoulders relaxed.

  • Rest your right arm on the upper part of the guitar body. (If you play left-handed, do the same but with your left arm)

  • If you find yourself straining, try to adjust your sitting position (use a mirror if you have one) so you're not in any pain.
